Summertime flies by.

Posted on 17th August, 2012

Time is certainly flying past. These last few weeks have seen me jolly busy both workwise and at home. We got the hay in which is a big relief and the sheep sheared without a hitch. I've been to Moy for the Field Sports Fair and had a fantastic time taking pictures. Grantown, Turriff and Keith shows were within a few days of each other and kept me on my toes, I especially loved the new Champion of Champions at Keith, the cattle were superb and long may this new competition attract the best of the very best. A big thankyou for all the press passes - I'll mention all of you in due course.

This month's issue of Home Farmer carries two articles by me. One on the dreaded scourge that is ragwort, pull it out if you can, and the other on my favourite sheep breed the Herdwick. They hail from the north of England as I do, so we have a bit in common. Fantastic sheep and well worth consideration for any new flockmasters out there.

The autumn edition of Farming North (can we really be in autumn?) has my usual column and two articles from me, one on Anne Scott and her new venture as a saddle fitter and the other on David Grayling Books, well worth a read, he's a fascinating man.

I'm putting pen to paper and trying to keep up as well as get out and about. Following a successful afternoon at the Speyside Rally stages (I love rallying, watching not taking part - unless anyone wants to offer me a ride in one) I'm off to catch sheepdog trialing this week and can't wait for the para games to begin. It'll come as no surprise to anyone to learn that I've been glued to the equestrian competitions in the Olympics and didn't they do well. My own personal favourites were definately Laura's bronze dressage (should she have been higher - methinks so) and Nick Skelton who was fantastic.
