The Spirit of Speyside, Spirit of the Highland Pony, Spirit of the Shetland Pony and A Boot Up the Speyside Way have all been reviewed by various magazines. These include The Shetland Times, The Scots Magazine, Smallholder magazine, North star Newspaper, the Native Pony Magazine and the Ullapool News.

Here's what has been said ... E.M said ' .. beautifully put together' F.L said ' .. absolutely beautiful the pictures are stunning' G.L said 'we all loved the pix, they are gorgeous'.

Reviews of  'Spirit of Highland Cattle' have featured in Scottish Islands Explorer, Scottish Memories magazine, The Oban Times, Thistledown magazine and from the American Highland Cattle Association in Denver, USA.

Over the last 25 years or so I've written for a wide variety of periodicals. I've had a longstanding column in Farming North magazine, a stand alone publication inserted into four local newspapers; The Northern Scot, Ross-shire Journal, John O'Groats Journal and Strathspey and Badenoch Herald - a huge readership. I wrote about farming, rural and equine topics.

I've also written monthly articles for Smallholder magazine. I've compiled articles on topics as diverse as septic tank issues, Limousin cattle and canal and Romany art. I've also written for the Countryman's Weekly, the Scottish Farmer, The Leopard, Scottish Memories, Riding magazine, Best of British and Lancashire magazine, to name a few.

I've also written for Lamplight, a new but well established magazine in the north-east of Scotland. I've done interviews, historical pieces and walks in the area including articles on Auchindoun Castle and local craftspeople.

Book signings are fantastic fun and draw in people from all walks of life to buy books, say hello or simply talk. During the spring 2010 Whisky Festival loads of books sold at the Archiestown signing with many really lovely comments. A later book signing for the Strathspey Steam railway was also a big success, loads of people dropped in to buy. The very best signings though have been in Cumbria with so many books sold that my publisher had a real shock - pleasant of course. Not suprising really as both Speyside books; The Spirit of Speyside and A Boot Up the Speyside Way are very popular with visitors to the Speyside area and the Appleby books are popular with everyone. See 'Gallery' page for a peek at the signings.

The Spirit of the Highland Pony and the Spirit of the Shetland Pony have both been in Amazon's top 20 best selling horse books, the Shetland Pony took 4th spot while at the same time the Highland Pony was 19th. They've both been consistently in the top 100 which is great news. Scan to the right of this page to read comments.

Signed copies have included one to to Ben Alder Estate - their ponies feature in the Highland Pony book.

Melanie Scott hugely successful herself as an editor and horse rider reviewed 'Spirit of the Highland Pony' and 'Spirit of the Shetland Pony' in the Scottish Farmer and Scottish Islands Explorer followed suit with my Shetland pony and Highland Cattle titles.

Have a look around my pages to see new photographs. I've added a few from 'The Horses of Appleby Fair' and 'Spirit of Highland Cattle' - hope you like them.

Super reviews of 'The Horses of Appleby Fair' were in Cumbria Life, Farming North, Vintage Tractor, The Blackpool Gazette (special thanks go to Jacqui Morley for all her support), the Cumberland and Westmorland Herald and Lancashire Life. Huge thanks go to all at Old Pond publishing and also Lisa Housley who has the biggest Appleby Fair page on Facebook, take a look at it. Not forgetting the man who made it all possible, Roger, a big thankyou to you all.

Cumbria magazine had a super review, thanks to Kev Hopkinson.

Paul Jackson of The Countryman agreed to an extended book review for Absolutely Appleby, for which I am very grateful.

Past articles have included coverage for the Scottish Farmer including Blair Horse Trials and The Royal Highland Show. My interviews with artists, writers, horse breeders, top horsemen and women of Scotland and coverage of food and crafts of the north have appeared in UK wide periodicals including Scottish Life magazine. Cherished number plates, climate change, bluebells in the woods, computor literacy, goat keeping and 'how to' articles have all fallen under my pen, along with pieces on the seals in Loch Linne, saving our native ponies and the British working collie. From the colourful Scottish Islands Explorer to the magazines of the Scottish Women's Rural Institute, Horse and Hound and the Farmers Weekly I've been fortunate to have had work used by them all.
