The run up to Appleby 2011

Posted on 29th May, 2011

It's only a few days before we leave to go to Appleby Fair in Cumbria. The tourist information centre are predicting a 40% increase in visitors to the Fair this year, so I hope there's space to park the car. Last year's weather was perfect for photography at the Fair and some spectacular horses added up to some great photo opportunities.

This year I'm looking forward to the book signings for my newly released book 'The Horses of Appleby Fair', I'll be accompanied by my husband, publisher Roger and his right hand woman Heather. I'm leaving capable help at home to look after my own horses. So back up is sorted out. Let's just hope the sun shines.

At home I'm putting in the hours on my new walking book 'A Boot up the Moray Way' due out in 2012 for Halsgrove. It's great getting the walking boots on again and finding some new places to walk - you'd think after 25 years in one place you'd know all the walks, but no, there's always somewhere new to explore.

On top of that I'm photographing Clydesdale horses, Scotland's gentle giant, for another new book and fitting in my magazine work too. This month's Home Farmer contribution on working farm dogs is about to go off to the editor and then I can head south. Hope all of you that are going to Appleby have a great time, travel safely and respect others on the road, especially horse drawn vehicles.
