The Royal Highland show, Highland ponies and Clydesdale horses.

Posted on 25th June, 2011

I'm just back from a wonderful, action packed two days at the Royal Highland show. It's got to be the best show of its kind in the UK - if you've never been I highly recommend it. I signed copies of 'Spirit of the Highland Pony' book on the Highland Pony Society stand - and am hoping to go out and meet ponies belonging to a lady who appears in the book over the next couple of weeks because of it.

We also watched the M+M in hand classes, in particular the Exmoors and Fells; delighted to see the Smith family from Braco/Greenloaning so successful, and saw the Clydesdale horses in hand, driven to farm carts, as unicorns and teams of four. Magnificent Scottish heavy horses, capable of so much and turned out to perfection. The piccies look good.

Elsewhere we saw the cattle and sheep lines, wandered through the goat tent, chickens and countryside area, ate all kinds of food in the food hall, spoke to TV chef Ainsley Harriet and saw Richard Lochead. It seems that everyone was there doing their bit for Scottish farming and rural life. From livestock to the latest in tractors, all and more were there.

So now it's back to work - two new books to finish before September and thoughts and pictures to capture.
